Dr. Julia Desiree Pineda completed a three-year Endocrinology and Metabolism Fellowship at the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Disorders (NIDDK), National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland and received her Internal Medicine Residency from the University of Connecticut Health Center. During her tenure at NIH she served as Lieutenant Commander in the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.

A native Washingtonian, Dr. Pineda grew up in Dominican Republic where she graduated Cum Laude with a Doctor of Medicine degree from the Pedro Henriquez Urena University. After medical school, she received a National Service Award Fellowship to conduct endocrine research at NIH.

Advocacy for patients and doctors rights is another passion of Dr. Pineda’s. She created the Wellbeing Program for physicians in D.C. and was part of the D.C. Health COVID-19 Advisory Committee. She is the current Board Chair of the Medical Society of the District of Columbia (MSDC), and the President of the Institute of Technology in Healthcare (ITHC). She is the Past President of both MSDC and the Pan American Medical Society. She also served as a D.C. Delegate for the American Medical Association.

Having published several articles in journals and books, her research was utilized to create the guidelines for thyroid cancer treatment. Dr. Pineda speaks at local and international conferences on thyroid diseases, diabetes, weight disorders, PCOS, low testosterone, and other metabolic disorders. She has been interviewed by CNN and featured in local television, newspapers, and radio programs.

Dr. Pineda is board certified and has always worked in private practice serving the D.C. area. She is fluent in both English and Spanish. For several years, she has been named on Washingtonian’s Top Doctors list.
